DAAN is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian charity founded in 2012. We work in Punjab to raise awareness of drug and alcohol misuse and to support education, health and well-being in local communities.
DAAN is run by volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds. Together with schools and communities, we deliver education, health initiatives and practical support to help young people make healthier choices.
Drug and alcohol misuse remains a serious public health and social challenge in Punjab, affecting individuals, families and communities. National research has identified Punjab as one of the Indian states with particularly high levels of alcohol use and significant opioid-related problems.
Substance misuse can affect physical and mental health, education, employment and family life. Young people are an especially important audience for prevention, making early education and honest conversations about the risks of drugs and alcohol an important part of reducing future harm.
DAAN believes that awareness and education can help people make informed, healthier choices. By working with schools and local communities, we aim to provide practical information, encourage positive opportunities for young people and support healthier communities for the future.
